PALM SUNDAY Services at First Church
A grand procession begins the service of worship at 11:00 a.m. as children waving palm fronds and banners process into the sanctuary. The Savannah Trombone Choir returns this year adding lots of musical drama to the service.
The sending hymn, “Ride On! Ride On! in Majesty!” is a Palm Sunday favorite.
It was written by Henry Hart Milman and published the same year our congregation was organized, 1827.
The service includes a sermon, “Determined, Dared and Done,” based on Mark 11:1-11. How will Jesus’ example inspire us? Will he today move from the periphery of our lives into the very center of our hearts where he will command and claim our full devotion? The One Great Hour of Sharing mission offering will be received on Palm Sunday and Easter. Please be generous.
The “Coming Home for Holy Week” emphasis continues at a fellowship luncheon in Stewart Hall, 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.
There will be a bounty of food and wall-to-wall tables as “Reflections on Faith, Hope and Love by William Sloan Coffin,” will be presented. The readers are Deb Theodotou, Maggie McManus and Paul Ellis-Graham.
The menu features glazed baked ham, macaroni and cheese, fresh green beans, house salad, rolls and bundt cake. $8/adult; $4/child under 12. See for yourself why Chef Roberto's Mac & Cheese is ranked best in his native Canada. Everyone’s invited.
