THE REV DR Daniel De beer

Minister

The Dr. Rev. Daniel De Beer (Danie) is coming from Mt Pleasant Presbyterian Church in Mount Pleasant SC where he has served for the past 3 years as interim senior pastor.

His journey as intentional transitional pastor also took him to Columbia Presbyterian Church in Vancouver, WA, St Andrew Presbyterian Church in Iowa City, and Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church in Oak Park IL, and the presbyteries of Chicago and Great Rivers (Illinois) as acting executive presbyter, after serving the First Presbyterian Church in Lewistown IL and the Ipava Presbyterian Church in Ipava IL, for 12 years as solo pastor.

Before arriving in the United States in February 2004 with his family, Danie served as Pastor for Youth and Young families and senior pastor in the Dutch Reformed Church (Nederduitse Gereformeerde Kerk) Verwoerd Park, chaplain in the South African Defense Force, and lecturer in Hebrew at Pretoria University.

Most of his theological education was done at the universities of Pretoria and Stellenbosch in South Africa, with a D. Min awarded by Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond (then known as the Union Presbyterian Seminary and School of Christian Education) focusing on the role of the sacraments in congregational life and “death.”

Danie is married to Annette. They both like meeting people, travelling, and spending time together. They have two children – Danielle and Lourens (who is married to Katie), and a grandson – who live in the St Louis area in Missouri.

Allison Shearouse

Director of Christian Education

​Allison oversees the Christian Education Ministry at First Presbyterian. She leads faith formation programs with children, youth and adults including Sunday School, youth group, Bible studies and special events.  

She joined our staff after serving in churches in Johns Creek, Georgia and Aiken, South Carolina.

She is a life long Presbyterian, certified Christian Educator and ordained ruling elder. She joins us with her husband, Chap and son.

​She enjoys spending time outdoors, traveling and is looking forward to being closer to the beach.

Dr jonathan murphy

DIRECTOR OF MUSIC AND ORGANIST

Dr. Jonathan Murphy - holds a doctorate of musical arts from University of Oklahoma. He is a gifted pianist and organist and a Georgia Southern University faculty member. As a recent interim choir director at a Savannah church and a frequent tenor soloist in Savannah and Hilton Head, Jonathan is well-connected in local musical circles.

Jonathan is a talented musician, educator and choral director who is excited about the potential of our music program and brimming with ideas to expand it. He's always looking to recruit singers and instrumentalists, knows how music can attract visitors for worship, fellowship and concerts. There’s more to Jonathan than his credentials and plans.

He is a spiritual servant leader, a brilliant musician and someone who can connect with people of all kinds and their children.

Come hear his music and meet him yourself. He's at our Schlueter pipe organ every Sunday at 11 am and special concerts.
