The mission statement of Christians in the Visual Arts (civa.org), contains the following statement: “Artists create culture. They have eyes to see, ears to hear, and hands to make. The genius of Christian community is that all who belong are invited to participate, invited to bring their skills and their passions to contribute to the greater good.” We are blessed to have a profusion of artists in our midst at First Presbyterian Church. Our Art and Faith Collaborative was formed to harness the creative energy of our artists to enrich our lives together as a community of faith.
One way we’re bringing this vision to life is by displaying art (created by members) throughout the church campus. To date, we’ve installed two paintings, and we’re looking forward to displaying additional art in an ongoing, non-permanent “exhibit”. There is a large painting by Tessa Parker near the stairwell in the main hall, and another by Neel Foster currently on display in the handbell rehearsal room. An explanation of the artist’s intent is included with the paintings. Take a few moments to enjoy and reflect on these pieces the next time you’re at church |
