On this Zoom call Laurie and Susan talk about displaced and refugee communities around the world. The last decade has seen a humanitarian crisis with global displacement due to war or political instability going from about 44 million people to more than 71 million people according to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. This surpasses the estimated 60 million people displaced by World War II. The Syrian war has sent 6.7 million people fleeing their homes for refugee camps in Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey. South Sudan 2.3 million people have been uprooted, while civil and economic woes in Venezuela have seen 4 million people displaced. |
